If we gaze forward even a generation or two into the future, it becomes challenging to imagine that any independent school will be needed. During this keynote presentation, Christian Long, co-founder, WONDER (by design) will discuss several challenges that may face us in the future, from the emergence of new technologies that will challenge pedagogical frameworks that anchor our schools, to the dynamic array of entrepreneurial methodologies and cultures that will challenge what it means to be useful, unique, and to make an impact in the real world, thus challenging the relevance of our schools in local communities and society at large. With these potential challenges, we would be wise to begin thinking about what will truly allow us to be relevant and agile in the future where the very vision of being human, intelligent, and relevant will be up for grabs; college degrees and industry standards will no longer be taken for granted; levels of debt will continue to rise and outpace the perceived value of degrees; most current human-only jobs will potentially be replaced by robots/artificial means or even just disappear; and reality and artificial reality will re-write our assumptions about what lies in front of us. This then becomes our “brave question.” And this, perhaps, becomes the only reason the future will consider our schools not only relevant, but absolutely vital.
